1920-1970. Demography.
Following WW I the Jewish population of New York grew
moderately to 1,765,000 in 1927 and [[probably with
immigration movement from NS territories in Europe]]
2,035,000 in 1937. It tapered off around 2,100,000 in 1950,
and slowly decreased as Jews moved to the suburbs from the
1950s.
By 1960 the Jewish population of the city had declined to
1,936,000, while that of the metropolitan area increased to
2,401,600, owing to the large growth of the Jewish
population in the suburb counties (see *NY State).> (col.
